We feel honored that the production company, Powderhouse Productions chose our Cairn terriers as one of the pups to represent the breed for an upcoming segment on Animal Planet. Powderhouse does film productions for Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, The History Channel and PBS as well as several other channels. Our pups will be in an upcoming show with Animal Planet called “Puppies-101” as well as the segment of "Dogs-101".

The show will feature several different breeds of dogs which were previously shown on their program last season called “Dogs-101”. In this series they showed several breeds and gave information on each breed, such as personality, size, appearance etc. This production which will be featured in the new season will be called “Puppies-101” and will represent the different breeds once again, although this series will highlight the breed in the puppy stage.

They also took some footage of one of our adult males, “Rocky” for possible use on some of the other shows to represent the Cairn terrier. When Mike, (the camera man) saw Rocky, he could not resist. He thought he was such a nice version of an adult Cairn (even with his hair cut) and stated that he would probably use the footage of Rocky in another show on Cairn terriers. He also wanted to get some footage of Rascal, but Rascal became camera shy and would not walk on the dock for the film like he wanted him to, he just froze in front of the camera. Possibly he just got scared with all the commotion, etc.

The day the phone rang and the voice at the other end told me he was Reuben with Powderhouse Productions and went on to tell me the shows that they produce, and that they would like to use our Cairn terriers to represent the breed we thought it may be someone playing a cruel joke on us! He said he had viewed our site, and had been referred by AKC to us and that he thought we had some very nice Cairns, he liked our philosophy on raising the Cairn, and liked what he saw on our website and wanted to film our dogs for the upcoming season. He requested more pictures of our dogs and said we would go from there. I, being the suspicious person that I am was leery with so much scam on the net, and prankster phone calls. I decided to investigate the company, his name as well as phone numbers. I verified with the company that he worked there, etc. Then I knew it was not a malicious joke and it was real. Then I was NERVOUS!…..YIKES….Animal Planet………… here…………at our house, this little town!

Mike called and made all the arrangements. He requested young children available to be filmed with the puppies; he acknowledged that the public wants to see young children with pups and the interaction between them. I arranged for my little second cousins to be here, they are Matthew, Seth and Abigail…ages 4-7. The pups were 8 weeks old, so they were bouncy playful pups. The children and pups had a blast and made such precious footage for the camera. Mike was very pleased with the outcome. He then took some footage of Rocky and my niece Melissa on our dock. We can’t wait for it to be aired, as he captured some truly precious shots. Mike indicated it will be on the show either this spring or early fall .We are not sure yet as the producers are still scheduling the new season of Animal Planet, but as soon as they decide on the air date they will contact us and let us know. We will post the time and date when we are informed as such.

We had fun on this exciting day, and these are some of the pictures that Jim and I were able to capture of the event as it was being filmed. Mike and Reuben with the production company were both as nice as they could be. Mike had a lot of patience to be able to handle three young children and 4 young puppies all running in different directions at once, along with Jim and I running around snapping pictures when we could, and still be able to get the footage he wanted!

We love the show Animal Planet, they have some very interesting features, and we are always glued to the shows, but now they will have an even more special meaning for us.

THANKS TO….MIKE, REUBEN, ANIMAL PLANET, POWDERHOUSE AS WELL AS DISCOVERY PRODUCTIONS FOR MAKING ALL THIS POSSIBLE !

They came 3 days before the scheduled time with less than 2 hours notice to bathe Rocky, Rascal, the pups, and find a location that was not wet, as we had down pours of rain the day before. It was a cold windy day in Feb, the yard had not come back to life yet, and to get it all ready in less than 2 hours really frazzled me, I don't usually look THIS bad. There was no time to get myself ready! But thanks to my niece Melissa, my Mom and Jim we put it all together. The producers told Mike later that it was some of the best footage he had gotten in his career! so we can't wait to see it!
